Read on to know:
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Size and weight
The dimensions of the iPhone5 are 123.8 x 58.5 x 7.6mm, which makes it much lighter and thinner than its immediate predecessor, the i-phone 4S.
The Samsung Galaxy S3, on the other hand, is much bigger with a size of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm.
iPhone5 is also much lighter than the S3. It weighs a mere 122 grams as compared to the 133 gram S3.
So, undoubtedly, the iPhone5 has an edge over the Samsung galaxy S3 as far as sleek looks and lighter hand set are concerned.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: The Screen
The screen of the iPhone 5 is 4 inches in size as compared to the 4.8 inch screen of an S3.
The iPhone 5, with a 4 inch screen, is much larger than the i-phone 4s which came with a 3.5 inch screen. The home screen can now show five rows of icons (as compared to 4 in the previous versions). The Retina display (at 326 ppi) is the same as the 4s though the latest version comes with a better screen resolution of 1136 x 640.
The Samsung Galaxy, on the other hand, comes with a giant 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED screen with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720.
If you talk of screen resolution, Apple iPhone 5 scores over the Samsung Galaxy S3 whose screen resolution is merely 306ppi.
The Samsung S3, however, gives a much wider viewing angle than the iPhone 5 because of its Super AMOLED technology.
If there are users who are actually looking out for larger screens, they will definitely prefer the Samsung product over the sinful apple.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: The processor
Apple Inc. has moved over from the A5 processor it used in iPhone 4s and in the iPad2 to A6 chip which, according to it, will deliver results which are twice as faster than the previous versions and also much better graphics. It comes with a dual core processor and though Apple is yet to announce its clock speed, and it should be significantly higher than 1GHz as in 4s.
May be, around 1.2GHz.
And that, believe us, is super fast!!
The Samsung Galaxy S3, on the other hand, comes with a quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos processor. The quad core processor certainly helps it score over its new rival. As our experts tried switching between the various apps and the home screen, there was no noticeable time lag -which is something a gadget freak will adore!
Advantage Samsung Galaxy S3.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: The Operating System
The new iPhone 5 comes with iOS6 which has iCloud support and a Siri which is much smarter than before. The user interface is slightly tweaked and the App store looks totally different too.
The Android powered Samsung Galaxy S3comes with 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. What the users are looking forward to is the 4.1 Jelly Bean update, which is expected to be available in October 2012.
Now, both operating systems have their own plus and minus points.
Here, only the end user can say which one he prefers or enjoys using more than the other.
Our experts suggest users with bigger budgets to go in for paid apps and stick to their existing system.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: The Camera
Well, this is the most difficult thing to compare in these two phones.
That is because, theoretically speaking, both the handsets come with an 8 MP camera.
The iPhone5 comes with an 8 MP camera with an aperture of f/2.4 which is capable of giving you amazingly clear and sharp pictures. This camera is, additionally, protected by a sapphire crystal lens, has features like noise filters, gives better pictures in dim light and comes with a new ‘panorama’ feature using which users can ‘sweep’ a scene and get a seamless, elongated picture. Further, family and friends can even comment on your pictures! The front facing camera is capable of giving videos of 720p.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 also comes with an 8 MP camera. Samsung claims that the camera in their devices has a zero shutter lag. In the burst mode, it allows the users to take continuous shots at a rate of 6 fps and then selects the best click based on blink detection, smile detection, contrast settings and blurring. Using the Face Zoom feature in S3, users can tap on a face when people are posing in a group for the camera to zoom in automatically. However, it lacks the optical zoom feature. The S3 comes with a 1.9 MP front camera which gives you passable quality for video calls and profile pictures, etc.
Cameras of both these hand sets are again evenly matched and the user will have to decide about the features they want to opt for while making the final choice between the two.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Storage
The UK versions of both the cell phones come with a 1GB RAM whereas the US version have 2GB RAM.
Both the devices are available with multiple internal storage options, with the users getting to choose out of the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB options.
Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with an additional microSD slot which allows the users to enhance its storage capacity by another 64 GB.
Now, why a user would want to store 128 GB data is anybody’s guess! But if you do WANT to do that, go ahead and pick up the S3.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Battery
The iPhone 5 comes with a 1440 mAh battery and that is not much of an improvement over the iPhone 4s when it comes to battery life. Since the iPhone 4 was a big improvement over the iPhone 3G and the 3GS in terms of battery life, the diehard Apple fans who were looking for an improvement this time too were in for a disappointment.
Considering that they can still get 10 hours of 4G talk time and 8 hours of 3G talk time, it does not sound like such a bad bargain after all.
A one hour improvement aint that disappointing, is it?
The Samsung Galaxy S3, on the other hand, comes with a 2100 mAh battery. It can boast of almost 12 hours of talk time on the current network.
Though a bigger battery does not guarantee a longer battery life, our experts believe that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will outperform the i-phone 5 on this account.
Both the phones come loaded with a battery saving feature.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Connectivity
Both the devices are evenly poised on this platform.
The iPhone 5 comes with LTE compatible and has a download capacity of 100 Mbps. It also has a better performing wi-fi 802 .11 a/b/g/n for 150 Mbps download speed.
In terms of connectivity, there is hardly anything that the amazing S3 phone misses out on! It comes loaded with all the features you could possibly look for in a cell phone.
Apple iPhone 5, however, does not possess the NFC feature which makes it look pale in comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: The Final verdict
While there is no doubt that the iPhone5 possesses some interesting and cool features, we have reasons to believe that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will continue to give it a tough run for its money.
