Root Sony Xperia U LT25i Android Phone with Easy Guide

Sony Xperia U users may be rejoicing now after reading this article, because they can get most of out their newly bought smartphone. Xperia U comes with a 3.5-inch scratch-resistant screen, and runs initially Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread Operating System. Process is of 1GHz dual-core STE 8500, which is capable to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, once it gets released for this model. With the 512MB of RAM, and 8GB Internal memory, and 4GB usable memory, user’s can extend it up to 50GB with cloud space.

The latest Xperia U LT25i can now be rooted, but with a long procedure, which we’re going to explain here in this tutorial. As this is initial root method, and no working one click tools around for rooting, so you have to go with method with flashing kernel, which is obviously a critical step towards the health of your smartphone.

Though, many users have already done with testing out this method, which was released at XDA Forums. Reportedly, it worked for many smoothly, though some faced problems also, which is just general thing when you’re performing rooting of newly arrived device. As you know Xperia U comes with Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread, and soon it is scheduled to receive at least Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update, may be Android 4.1 Jelly Bean also later. After rooting, you would be able to install number of custom ROMs and other apps which requires root access.

Disclaimer: The rooting of your Sony Xperia U LT25i is a critical process, and very much risky for end users. Only advanced level users are suggested to root this device with this method, who knows how to restore back to stock/ factory firmware, even when device might get bricked during the process. Pre-Requisite

  • It is suggested to you to Backup all data in your Sony Device:
  • Download and Install Latest Sony Drivers from their official website. Also arrange data cable, which is required for PC and Tablet connectivity.
  • Make sure that your device is charged at least 80% before you go through the rooting process, so that it won’t get shut down in half of the process.
  • It is suggested to Disable Antivirus and Firewall program in your Computer, this will make sure that no conflict will happen.
  • USB Debugging Mode should be must that is Turned On. Navigate to the path ‘Settings>Applications>Development>USB  debugging’.  You have to disconnect your phone from computer, it is must to enable USB debugging mode.

How to Root  Sony Xperia U LT25i Phone on Stock 6.0.B.1.564 Firmware

Step 1: If your phone has bootloader unlocked already, you can skip this step, otherwise performing this is critical step. First of all, to Unlock your Sony Xperia U, you need to have your IMEI no. of device, which you can get by just dialing *06# on the phone. Then simply note it down a notebook or notepad in PC.

Step 2: Now you need to ensure that if your phone can be unlocked or not, for that you need to press/ dial #*#7378423#*#>Service Info>Configuration>Rooting Status. If the interface is saying Yes at this stage, your device is eligible for Step 3.

Step 3: Now, firstly make sure to install drivers, and make sure they’re updated. Simply click here and then download the same file to your computer, extract the same for later usage. Now, connect your device to the computer, and then enter Fastboot mode with pressing and holding Power Down+Volume Up keys together. The autorun will start drivers installation, and you should install them to only usb_driver. After verifying if drivers installation was successful, you can simply disconnect your phone from computer.

Step 4: Now you must unlock the bootloader of your U LT25i device. Firstly visit here and Press Continue and accept instructions or Agreement. You will be welcomed by a page, which is called ‘Create Unlock Request Page’, simply put the info requested by the page, on the just next page, you will be having Unlock Code. Now, save or note it down.

Step 5: We’ll begin rooting process after this step, as this is the last step to get phone unlocked. Firstly open the folder, where you have extracted drivers of Step 3. Then open the Fast Boot Folder inside drivers folder, then open command prompt, then connect your phone same like you did in Step 3.

Step 6: Now, in the command prompt, type the following:

fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version

Now, you should wait if it returns 0.5 and then if it same, then it is the sign of that your device is connected properly. Now you can go ahead with typing next command:

fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xUNLOCKCODE

(Make sure to replace UNLOCKCODE with the one you got it in Step 4.) Now after that your Xperia U has been unblocked.

Step 7: So, it’s turn to Root your Xperia U finally. So let’s begin, first of all you need to download rooted kernel.elf for your Xperia U. Save the Kernel file in same folder of fastboot.exe files.

Step 8: Now, turn off the device, and then turn on in fastboot mode (See step 3 to know hot to put your phone into Fastboot mode).

Step 9: Connect your Xperia U to computer and then again run the Command Prompt in the folder, and run this command:

fastboot flash boot kernel.elf
