Install Android 4.0 (Beta) ROM on Sony Xperia Ray/ neo V/ Arc S

Sony is adopting strategy to become developers friendly, with ditching the latest Android Version to their 2011 Models, which were launched with ‘Sony Ericsson’ branding. Sony Mobile has now released latest, Beta Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for, their Sony Xperia Ray, Xperia neo V, and Xperia Arc S. The owners of these smartphones would able to feel the taste of latest version of Google Android Operating System. We have tried these ROMs on Live devices, and we are here going to guide you through the process with steps, how you can install ICS ROM (Beta) to you Xperia Smartphone.

Sony Xperia arcS neoV Ray ICS ROM Installation Steps Guide Tutorial Install Android 4.0 (Beta) ROM on Sony Xperia Ray/ neo V/ Arc S

First of all, these Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs (Beta) are upgraded, from December 2011 fame Alpha ROMs. The beta release is still not final one, and it is expected to see more improvements in final version of ROM for selected Xperia Smartphones. Sony aims to give advance users, a test drive to their development.

What is Working [Active]:

  • GSM Modem is Turned on, which was inactive in last versions.
  • FM Radio is working now.

What is Not Working [Inactive]:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Google Apps (Gmail, Google Maps, Face Unlock) are not working, becuase the Sony’s ICS Beta Build didn’t got approval from Google yet.

Pre Requisite/ Checklist for Sony Xperia Ray, Xperia neo V, and Xperia Arc S:

  • Before doing anything, you should make backup of all the data, even call logs, SMS, email and internet settings, and all other data stored in memory card including video and pictures. You should also backup all the data using ASTRO File manager like apps, which allows you to restore data from backup file later.
  • The Official Beta ICS ROMs require your phones should running the latest software build, build number 4.0.2.A.0.42.
  • You have to unlock bootloader, for which you have visit unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and easily unlock your phone.
  • Download Sony Xperia Ray ICS ROM, Sony Xperia neo V ICS ROM, Sony Xperia Arc S ICS ROM.

Steps to Install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) ROM on Sony Xperia Ray

  • Connect your Device to Computer, and extract Xperia_ray_ICS_beta.zip file to ‘Android Fastboot directory, whose path is (..android-sdkfastbootXperia_ray_ICS_beta.)
  • Open Command Prompt, and run the following commands in ‘Fastboot Directory’ (Path provided in last step).:
    • fastboot flash boot ..FastbootXperia_ray_ICS_betaboot.img
    • fastboot flash userdata ..FastbootXperia_ray_ICS_betauserdata.img
    • fastboot flash system ..FastbootXperia_ray_ICS_betasystem.img
  • Reboot the Sony Xperia Ray Android Smartphone. You are done.

Steps to Install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) Beta ROM on Sony neo V

  • Connect your Device to Computer, and extract Xperia_neoV_ICS_beta.zip file to ‘Android Fastboot directory, whose path is (..android-sdkfastbootXperia_neoV_ICS_beta.)
  • Open Command Prompt, and run the following commands in ‘Fastboot Directory’ (Path provided in last step).:
    • fastboot flash boot ..FastbootXperia_neoV_ICS_betaboot.img
    • fastboot flash userdata ..FastbootXperia_neoV_ICS_betauserdata.img
    • fastboot flash system ..FastbootXperia_neoV_ICS_betasystem.img
  • Reboot the Sony Xperia neo V Android Smartphone. That’s it.

  • Connect your Device to Computer, and extract Xperia_arcS_beta.zip file to ‘Android Fastboot directory, whose path is (..android-sdkfastbootXperia_arcS_ICS_beta.)
  • Open Command Prompt, and run the following commands in ‘Fastboot Directory’ (Path provided in last step).:
    • fastboot flash boot ..FastbootXperia_arcS_ICS_betaboot.img
    • fastboot flash userdata ..FastbootXperia_arcS_ICS_betauserdata.img
    • fastboot flash system ..FastbootXperia_arcS_ICS_betasystem.img
  • Reboot the Sony Xperia Arc S Android Smartphone. Congratulations! You have successfully installed official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) ROM on your smartphone.
